Following the lead of the City of Los Angeles and Yahoo, Google recently employed a new landscaping service to its grounds in Mountain View, California: Goats.
Instead of using conventional carbon-spewing lawncare equipment, Google has been employing this crew of ungulate lawnmowers to keep weeds and brush low while mowing and fertilizing the lawn. It turns out that ‘renting’ the goats for two weeks was equivalent to having a fossil-fuel-powered, 100% human lawn care force contracted for the exact same purpose.
In addition to be being friendlier for the environment, the goats also have another natural benefit: they easily control weeds and grasses in areas hard to reach by conventional lawncare equipment.
