Air .pollution 1 CO2 levels at new high

Despite the economic slowdown (which, by some sources, is actually on the recovery), global levels of greenhouse gas emissions are at their all-time high.

Concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in remote arctic measuring stations is up to 393.71 parts per million, up from 393.17 ppm at the same time in 2009.

Since the start of the industrial revolution, the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have risen by more than a third.  A 2009 study indicated that current levels of CO2 are at the highest they’ve been in 2.1 million years.

Most environmentalists (and at least one well-known economist) agree that a target of 350 parts per million is the target we need to reach in order to avoid catastrophic climate change.
